On September 22, 1776, British forces in New York City executed schoolteacher and spy Nathan Hale. Nearly 120 years later, the St. Paul chapter of the DAR adopted Hale as their new chapter’s namesake, joining in a wave of popularity for the young Revolutionary War hero.

In 1907, the chapter commissioned and then installed a statue of Nathan Hale in St. Paul. Sitting at the tip of a small triangular park along Summit Avenue, the statue and park honor the heroic young man who regretted that he had but one life to lose for his country.

In this presentation, we’ll learn about this beautiful St. Paul statue and its many sculpture “cousins” on display around the country.
