In the 1890s and early 1900s, Charles Aldrich was an important figure in St. Anthony Park. He was an early professor on the St. Paul campus and designed many of its original buildings. In the 1890s, he also did considerable work on the State Fairground. After a residential stint at the St. Paul campus, he lived in a few different houses around the neighborhood before designing his own home on Keston. Aldrich’s designs helped to shape the early neighborhood, where he created many houses as well as some institutional and industrial buildings. His work extended beyond the neighborhood to buildings of all sorts in Minneapolis and in greater Minnesota. After an acrimonious divorce in the early years of the 20th century, Aldrich moved to the Pacific Northwest, where he remarried and restarted his career. Several of his buildings, both local and more remote, have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
