Gathering a Very Favored Group: The Friends and the Mia Neighborhood in the 1920s

In 1922, Carolyn McKnight Christian spoke to a group of women gathered to organize the Friends of the Institute. They arrived at their January meeting from very near—neighbors to the museum building—and quite far—St. Paul!—traveling familiar sidewalks and streets. In this presentation, we will make a virtual visit to Minneapolis of a century ago to see how the small Euro-American settlements near St. Anthony Falls had developed into a large American city, one with a nearly-new art museum and its brand new women’s group, the Friends of the Institute.

The event is free but tickets are required. Visit the Mia website, follow the Tickets link, and select Talks.
